Here’s the essential problem with every recent American news report about world events: for some reason they all must involve the word Facebook or Twitter. I mean, CNN/MSNBC does that with all domestic news too, but I feel like they have set up some horrible precident where to get the world’s attention geopolitical actors have to use fucking hashtags.

We know this to be true because yesterday Kenya, who is currently fighting Islamic extremists in neighboring Somalia, tweeted Somali residents that they were going to bomb them. Am I missing something? Do Somalis all have iPhones? Somalia is so poor it literally can’t afford twitter (which is free); indeed, navel gazing doesn’t happen as much when your naval has shrunken to nothing because of famine and cholera.

So let’s make a pact to care about important international news without mentioning twitter. Did Napoleon tweet Kutuzov at Borodino? No (Aain with the Napoleon references? What is with this blog today??). International news matters even if it is contains more than 140 characters.
