Gingrich 2012 is a Polish Tank

There’s an old joke that goes “How do you blow up a Polish tank? Turn it on.” Speaking of old jokes, Newt Gingrich is running for president and it seems his campaign is following the same trajectory as that aforementioned joke, except his is more like “How do you doom Newt Gingrich’s presidential campaign? Let him campaign for president.”

I say this because about a week into his campaign for the Republican nomination Newt is already getting such promissing headlines as “Gingrich campaign fights for its life“. This sunny outlook for his political future comes from years of sheer idiocy some negative comments he made about the House GOP’s plan for Medicare, saying they were an inappopriate attempt at “right wing social engineering”. This broke Reagan’s famous 11th commandment of not publically criticizing others in your party and forced him to him to apologize to all those offended Republicans out there.

Remember when the GOP was all about killing Communism and Terrorists and didn’t weep like petulant children when they were criticized by people who aren’t even important anymore? But I digress…

The weird thing too is that Gingrich wasn’t even off base in his criticism! He rightly points out (okay that was weird to type…) that Republicans are just as guilty of social engineering in their healthcare plans as the Democrats were with their version of healthcare reform. That’s not wrong! I think it’s pretty clear  that the G.O.P. just wants to use this brief mis-step to damn his campaign. They want him to fail in the same way that while we tolerate Jennifer Lopez’s continued presense, we want her new singles to be awful so we can continue to pat ourselves on the back about basically leaving her in the dust (check out the song “Louboutins” if you don’t believe me…)

Oh and today some gay guy threw glitter at the Newtster! He just can’t catch a break.
