Keep your government hands off my medicare!

I guess 2011 won’t be South Carolina’s year either…

Ummmm just a quick not to any of you who thought that South Carolina’s New Years Resolution was to not be fucking crazy: you’re about to be disappointed.

Over the past few years, social conservatives have courted controversy by pushing for more piquant license plate themes like New Jersey’s recent decision to print one that’s pro-life. Of course it’s a good thing they did because if the Catholic church can’t convince people that abortion is wrong, surely a piece of pressed tin will.

South Carolinian conservatives are now taking this a step further by asking for specialized license plates that feature the “Tea Party rallying cry, ‘Don’t Tread On Me'” and the phrases “Second Amendment” and, worst of all, “Coon Hunter”. Coon Hunter? Shit. Now when you’re driving around the swamps of the low country and you see a bunch of white guys in Klan outfits with guns, you’ll know they hate raccoons too!

So yeah, could we um, not print racially insensitive license plates? I’m sure if the state of Maine printed a Winnie the Pooh themed plated with the phrase “Tigger Lover” it would be fine, but not in the Palmetto State. What ever happened to using the back of your car to show everyone the importance of not knockin’ if said van were to be a-rockin’? SIGH.
