Cso many csilly csars!

Did you read that the New York Times recently banned the word “tweet” from their newspaper? Well I have a nomination for another overused word that the White House needs to retire badly.

The Times inadvertantly wrote about this too popular word when it broke the news that Obama was going to appoint Donald M. Berwick as the new “Healthcare Csar“. Reading this it occured to me that on June 25th Sen. Dick Durban asked Obama to appoint a “carp csar” to deal with the onslaught of the non-native Asian carp in the waters of the Great Lakes. Oh those Midwesterns, always politely asking for 17th century Russian noblemen to rule their alien fish.

It’s clear that the term “csar” is stupid and has (wait for it) jumped the “csark”. Are high ranking government bureaucrats really so desperately for recognition that we need to call them csars? Csars were awful people who couldn’t even agree if their name started with a ts- or a cs-. What about other types of historical tyrants? Don’t they deserve their day too? Why not the “Healthcare Dictator”, the “Carp Duce”, or the “Solar energy tribal warlord strongman”?

Just blindly calling everyone a csar makes the term lose its badassness, something that America is in desperate short supply of. Giving each other crazy titles debases America and leaves us open to attack from our most treaded enemies -no, not the Napoleon- Asian Carp!
